The first official meetings started promptly at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2008 with a prayer by an O.U.T.R.A.G.E. volunteer who was also a Presbyterian minister. "Oh, God," he implored, "help guide us as we begin to reform and rebuild this great nation, the United States of America. We recognize the formidable challenges that lie ahead, and we ask for your divine direction and intervention. Give spiritual counsel to all of these newly elected officials as they take steps to transform our great nation into the world's first pure democracy. Amen."
Television cameras were poised to cover all three arenas, utilizing 'split screen' effects at times, and broadcasting close-up conversations on certain channels so that viewers could absorb virtually every word that was being said. While these were characterized as 'informal talks', the consequences of these meetings would define the direction that would be taken once the new U.S. Congress convened in January, 2009. There was more than sufficient subject matter to be covered during the next three days. Where would the swearing-in ceremonies take place (since Washington, DC was virtually leveled). Who would conduct the ceremonies? There were issues of protocol that had to be reconciled.
Aside from the pomp-and-circumstance, there were issues pertaining to law. Scholars had been researching how the O.U.T.R.A.G.E. bombings had affected the rotation and position of Congressional members. O.U.T.R.A.G.E. didn't want to exercise undue 'control' over these matters, but it also didn't want things to get out of control to a point that there would be any grabs for power. In fact, that was precisely what this 'Rebellion of 'o8' had been about: eradicating the power base that had put such a stranglehold on the nation over these past fifty or sixty years.
As the day's proceedings began, it was obvious to all viewers that this was an historic event of primary proportions. The U.S.A. was undergoing a total restoration of its government and how its government would proceed. "The people" were in charge...and O.U.T.R.A.G.E. volunteers were determined to keep it that way!
